Sports First Aid Training Courses

Your Sport’s Governing body may have an Approved Codes of Practice (ACOP) in relation to Sports First Aid training, where a Sports First Aider is necessary. This Sports course gives the delegate the necessary knowledge to arrange equipment and call for the Emergency Services when and if required. All coaches where stated may need to hold a valid First Aid certificate.

This Sports First Aid course syllabus is an ideal certified course for those working as a coach or involved in sports from boxing to rambling or for concerned pitch side parents. Bisp Training is a Registered Awarding Centre for Ofqual Approved courses.

Who should attend? This course is for individuals who wish to gain good basic first aid skills and attain a qualification in sports First Aid covering a range of common first aid emergencies. It is run over one day or two evenings and naturally tailored to the sport in question for each group.

  • First Aid Priorities
  • Managing Incidents
  • Examination of a Casualty
  • CPR / introduction to defibrillation
  • Recognising & treating suspected Head Injuries
  • Fractures
  • Immobilising C-Spine
  • Dealing with Seizures
  • First Aid Systems /Kit provision
  • Dealing with Minor Sporting Injuries
  • Selected ailments exacerbated by sporting activities (eg diabetes and asthma)
  • Recording and Reporting

Assessment and certification

There is no learner assessment, although there will be a continuous evaluation throughout the course all students deemed to have reached the required standard will be issued with a recognised certificate in SPORTS FIRST AID which is VALID FOR 3 YEARS. It should be remembered that the Sports First Aider should not attempt to give first aid for which they have not been trained.

The HSE (NI) has strongly recommended that those attending this course attend annual refresher training lasting 2-3 hours to support First Aiders to remain confident and competent. This is not compulsory but it is STRONGLY RECOMMENDED by the HSENI and Bisp Training Ltd.
